Rod's a generally happy-go-lucky, happy-as-he-is fellow, but like anyone else, he's got his insecurities. Even when the person you're with is completely happy with you as you are, it's easy to fall into "I wish I was more like that," lines of thought. Still, like so many people, he doesn't really have the drive to pursue those aspirations; he'd rather spend his time with Brooke, working on cars, and doing the things he loves.
Appropriately, I...am actually not particularly fond of Buff-Rod. I'm sure plenty of folks will disagree on that note, but I genuinely like him as-is the best...and that's kind of the point, isn't it?

I believe that we get what we want. Life is a string of choices and consequences. The reward of being buff isn't worth the price in his mind, so he hasn't paid it. When and if he changes his mind, he'll naturally and happily do the work.
All that aside, I've felt the same way. Mostly when someone stronger than me is boasting. But these days I'm usually more frustrated by their pride than my insufficiency.
